132 Magical Towns
The Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) launched the magical town government program (Programa Pueblos Mágicos) in 2001. The purpose was to promote certain towns that preserved their natural beauty, traditions and folklore. The first magical town (2001) was Huasca de Ocampo in Hidalgo and the last one that joined the list is Sisal in Yucatán (2020).
Malinalco, Estado de México
There are currently 132 magical towns and it is my goal to visit them all, so check back to this section for updates. And no matter what Mexican region you decide to explore, I highly recommend adding one or two magical towns to your itinerary. There are always a couple of them near big cities.
